Plans for the upcoming residential development at 754 West Belden in Lincoln Park have been further refined as it continues its path towards approval. Sitting at the intersection with North Halsted Street and across the way from the DePaul School of Music, the proposal would replace a two-story structure and its parking lot.

Efforts for the project are being led by local nonprofit Over The Rainbow (OTR), which owns and operates the existing building. OTR’s mission is to provide affordable and accessible housing for adults with physical disabilities, thus this new five-story structure will grow the organization’s capacity and expand accessibility through things like wheel-in showers and more.

The new structure will occupy the majority of the site, removing the on-site parking lot as most residents do not drive. Within the ground floor will be a small lobby, community room, shared laundry, patio, and a few units. The upper floors will hold the rest of the 30 residential units, made up entirely of one-bedroom layouts.

The 58-foot-tall building is being designed by architecture firm Weese Langley Weese and will be fully affordable through OTR, available to those making 30 percent AMI. The team will now work towards gaining zoning approval from the city, along with finalizing details with HUD. If approved on time, construction would start next summer and open in late 2028.
